Fake And Plastic – Album Review

On June 10th, the underground Industrial - Dark Wave band A Drowning Angel released their first EP Fake And Plastic.

Its starts off with the very first track being appropriately titled "Fake And Plastic" basically setting the tone for the 5-track EP. It gives you an idea of what your about to encounter with ADA (A Drowning Angel).

Track 2 Vampire - (in my opinion) sets its self up in an underground rave. Which I think is awesome. Its perfect! And you automatically feel like your either just entering or have been inside this dark, hot and loud space where everyone is just so cramped up close and not giving a fuck because all you wanna do is just dance to the hypnotizing sound coming from ADA.

Track 3 Undead Raver - Is like the ultimate brake down. Like this is when your really feeling yourself. Just feeling the environment your in, everything and everyone around you. Its like there isn't a care in the world.

Track 4 Alice in Oblivion - The tile alone will have you think what your already thinking. And that's if you and I are thinking alike. I so feel like Alice in Wonderland with this but on . . . yeah I think you know what I mean. And this track is by far one of my favorites on this EP.

Track 5 Lost In Silent Hill - The last track. The most amazing I think. The beginning of the song does have elements from the very popular video game Silent Hill. But what i really like about this song its a total "Energy Come Down" it is kinda what you want went at any underground rave. You need that ONE song to bring that high intense partying that's been going on through out the night to finally come to an end. And if not an end you want it to slow the fuck down so you rest - than lets start the party ONE. MORE. TIME.

XD

Before the release of Fake And Plastic a single from the highly anticipated EP "Undead Raver" was released on February 19th of this year. The single features Undead Raver along with a B side from Undead Raver and a raw demo for the track Alice in Oblivion.

Weather Systems – Album Review

It was in May of 2010 after a seven year gap that Anathema released “We’re Here Because We’re Here”. That album received much praised and was well received by their fans old and new. So it is with no surprise with theApril 16th (Europe) & April 24th 2012 (US) release of “Weather Systems” that this amazing album has received that same attention as the one before it.

Weather Systems is a very – emotional album and not in that term you would connect it as “Emo”. No, this album is way above and far beyond that. This album feels more like a sense of life being lived or having lived your life and now preparing for the next chapter in one’s life. It’s basically the soundtrack to life. Anathema’s ability to dig deep into their creative & artistic soul is just so amazing, overwhelming and unbelievable. This album will guarantee to leave you speechless from the first track Untouchable pt1 to the last Internal landscapes.

Anathema Anathema Anathema....... where shall I began?

This band was brought to my attention by an interview I watched on YouTube of HIM frontman Ville Valo. It was an interview for HIM's February 2010 release of Screamworks: Love in theory and practice, Chapters 1-13. Valo mention bands that loved listening to like My Dying Bride, Cathedral, Paradise Lost and Anathema. So of course, if you know me well then you'd probably figured out that I was already googling and Youtubing these bands.

Note: love My Dying Bride, Cathedral and Paradise Lost......

But It was Anathema that won my heart and a place in my Top Favorite Bands of all time (for me of course).

It was last year in May around the same time they released their latest album "We're here because we're here" that I heard a song called "Lost Control" from their 1998 album Alternative 4. Thanks the gods for YouTube!
"Lost Control" (Alternative 4) - Anathema

That's when I decided to see if they had any social networking site such as a Facebook, Myspace or Reverbnation. I found them on Facebook and "Liked" the page. First song of the rotation for me was "Thin Air" off the May 2010 "We're here because we're here" album. This song blew me away the vocals the lyrics the musical arrangements .........it was like, YES!!!! This is the sound I've been waiting for from a band!
"Thin Air" (We're here because we're here) - Anathema

Next was "Dreaming Light" Its the third track off the album. I didn't know there was a video till I checked out there website http://www.anathema.ws. After hearing this I immediately tried to purchase it but soon found out that it was not yet available here in the US. They then later signed with The End Records for North American distribution and soon the US/Canada release was set for June 6 2011.

Sometimes I find it hard to explain and to compare what a certain band sound like and in this case (for me) its not easy. Anathema is a unique band in my book. They are not like other bands. If you've listened to their past heavier albums/EP's i.e. the crestfallen ep, serenades, pentacost iii,  the silent enigma and eternity  you'll notice the gradual change from Doom metal to a more Progressive rock style with a bit of an ambient feel. But as (I) listen to this present album along with the past releases I notice that they have only gotten better with time. Anathema has truly evolved into something magnificent.
